Who wants to watch an hour of the Mothership and their 1,500 different analysts break down the same game over and over again? We sure don’t (Unless Original #BuschBabe and BLS Favorite Jaymee Sire is anchoring). Here’s what you may have missed in the sports world yesterday.

pujols 500

#500 for #5.

Albert Pujols not only became the 26th player in Major League Baseball history to join the 500 home run club, he became the first to do it with numbers 499 and 500 in the same game. The Angels first baseman belted a 3-run shot in the 1st inning and then followed that with a 2-run shot in the 5th, driving in 5 of the Angels 7 runs as they downed the Nationals in D.C. on Tuesday night. Both shots came off Nats’ starter Taylor Jordan and #500 traveled 430 feet which was his longest ball of the season.  At just past 34, he’s also the 3rd-youngest to get to 500; Alex Rodriguez and Jimmie Foxx were both 32. With the 2 blasts Tuesday, Pujols also takes the MLB Lead with 8 home runs on the year.

NETS  95 @ RAPTORS  100 (TIED at 1-1)

The Toronto Raptors rode DeMar DeRozan’s 30 points and Jonas Valanciunas’ 15 points and 14 rebounds, his 2nd straight playoff double-double, to a series tying victory over Brooklyn on Tuesday evening. The two teams will come back to the States for Game 3 on Friday night. Joe Johnson had 18, Deron Williams 15 and Mirza Teletovic 14 points for the Nets, but Game 1 hero Paul Pierce was just 2 for 11 from the field, including 0 for 6 from 3-point land and finished with  7 points. The biggest moment of the game didn’t actually come until after the game, when we were treated to maybe the greatest 20 seconds in sports highlights history, with back to back shots of BLS Hero, Mayor Rob Ford, among the common fans in the rafters while BLS enemy, Drake, was cleaning his pants with a lint roller in the front row. Enjoy these moments below brought to you courtesy of Olbermann.

HAWKS  85 @ PACERS  101 (TIED AT 1-1)

George Hill scored all 15 of his points in a huge 2nd half for Indiana and Paul George added a game high 27, leading the Pacers to a 101-85 victory over Atlanta on Tuesday night in Game 2, evening their 1st-round playoff series at 1. The 1st half looked a lot like Game 1 as the Hawks led by 6 at the break, but the Pacers pulled away with a huge 31-13 third quarter. Paul Millsap led the Hawks with 19 points while Jeff Teague added 14. Game 3 is Thursday in Atlanta.

WIZARDS  101 @ BULLS  99  OT (WAS LEADS 2-1)

Washington finished off their sweep of the 1st 2 games on the road in Chicago with a 10 point 4th quarter comeback and a 2 point win in overtime. Nene scored the first 6 points of the extra period and finished with 17, Bradley Beal rode a strong 2nd half to a game high 26 and John Wall added 16 points and 7 assists for Washington. The Wizards came flying out of the gates as they had a 17-point 1st-quarter lead early on. Chicago then dominated most of the next 2 quarters as they looked like they would even the series going back to Washington.  However, the Wizards made a run with 7 minutes left in the game to get it to overtime. Both teams had opportunities to win it in the closing seconds but neither could convert. Washington again got out quick in overtime but the Bulls actually had a chance to tie with 2.4 seconds left when Kirk Hinrish was fouled by Nene on a drive to the hoop. Hinrich, a 76-percent free throw shooter for the season, missed the 1st and then had to deliberately miss the second. Trevor Ariza grabbed the rebound to seal the win for Washington. D.J. Augustin led Chicago with 25 points. Taj Gibson had 22 points and 10 rebounds  and Joakim Noah added 20 points and 12 boards, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulls are now in a deep hole  after losing the 1st 2 games at home.

Jose Fernandez showed why he’s the best young pitcher in baseball on Tuesday night with a dominant 14 strikeout performance over 8 innings to beat the Braves 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel with Atlanta’s Alex Wood. Fernandez gave up just 3 hits, had no walks, struck out the side in the 5th and 6th and the 14 Ks equalled his career high. Steve Cishek came on for the save in the 9th. Wood went 8 innings himself giving up just 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 11. Giancarlo Stanton scored the lone run of the game on a 4th inning single by Casey McGehee.

The Special One returned to Madrid Tuesday with Fernando Torres in tow to open the Champions League semifinal ties, taking on Diego Simeone’s in-form Atletico Madrid. Torres, who is still very much a revered and beloved character at el Estadio Vincente Calderón, was welcomed warmly by the Atleti support, while the reception for Mourinho was less congenial. Mou’s tactics were reminiscent of his prickly press conference demeanor of late, as it became clear early that Chelsea would be content to park ten men behind the ball and try to hit Simeone’s men on the counterattack. While Atletico Madrid proved to be the more adventurous side, lofting cross after cross into the Chelsea danger area, John Terry and England sidekick Gary Cahill (MOTM) marshaled the Londoners’ defense well to deny the Spanish efforts. Despite mustering five times the shots that Chelsea did, Atletico ultimately had to settle for a draw, which Mourinho will gladly take back to Stamford Bridge. Some significant notes from the game: Peter Cech will be on the shelf for the rest of the year after landing awkwardly while making a save and dislocating his shoulder. John Terry also sustained a foot injury that will keep him out of the 2nd leg of the tie and Chelsea’s Premier League tilt this weekend at Anfield. Frank Lampard received a yellow card and will be excluded from the second leg as well. (Courtesy of Earl)

Most interesting, this Palcohol!

Most interesting, this Palcohol!

Powdered Alcohol; what could go wrong here! It was reported earlier this week that Palcohol, a powdered alcohol, had been approved for sale in the United States, as a similar product is already available in Japan and Germany among other countries. It turns out the product is not yet approved. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau initially approved the product but then on Monday, Tom Hogue, the agency’s director of congressional and public affairs, told CNN the approval was “in error.” The company issued this statement on their website, “We have been in touch with the TTB and there seemed to be a discrepancy on our fill level, how much powder is in the bag. There was a mutual agreement for us to surrender the labels. This doesn’t mean that Palcohol isn’t approved. It just means that these labels aren’t approved. We will re-submit labels. We don’t have an expected approval date as label approval can vary widely.” The founder of the company said he came up with the product because he wanted a lightweight way to carry alcohol with him on hiking trips that he often takes. There are currently six versions of the powder listed by Palcohol. There’s a vodka, a rum, as well as four cocktails: a cosmopolitan, a mojito, a margarita and a lemon drop. The product also happens to be gluten-free. Palcohol is designed to be dissolved in a mixer like a tonic or even just water and within seconds you have an alcoholic beverage. BLS has just one question; What’s the over under on how long it takes some hero frat boy to dissolve a packet of Vodka into a glass of vodka, while snorting vodka and end up dead at the frat house? We’ll take the under!

Fallon’s Video Editors

Jimmy Fallon’s video editors are unbelievable. Check out their newest creation, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams rapping Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice”. The amount of footage they must have had to go through to develop this is mind-blowing. Hell of an effort by Fallon’s show which continues to be the most entertaining of all the late night network programs.

From earlier this week, in case you missed it:
